Shop Assistant - Casual (Carlton North)

2-3 days a week • Retail level 3

Basil & Ivy is an online store for pet and plant lovers; we feature goods and gifts for pets and plants.

We are running a summer shop this February and March in Fairfield. We're seeking a positive, motivated, people person to work in the shop 3 days each week over this period. There may be the option to extend after this.
You’ll often be working alongside one of the owners, but may also spend time working independently, so you need to be confident and comfortable with autonomy.

In addition to helping customers and processing sales, you may also be responsible for:

• dispatching online orders
• receiving inventory into the system
• some photography for social media use (eg. cute dogs who visit the shop!)
• assistance with merchandising and keeping the shop looking fabulous!

Skills & experience:

• Passion for plants and growing things

• Some knowledge of indoor plants and their care

• Attention to detail

• Respect for timeliness

• Confident using a computer

• Comfortable dealing with all sorts of people

• Confident with dogs (as the shop is dog-friendly)

• Ability to think on your feet

• Previous retail or sales experience ideal but not essential

Hours would usually be:

Thursday: 10.45am-6.15pm
Friday: 10.45am-6.15pm
Saturday and/or Sunday: 8.45am-4.15pm

Note, we're still experimenting with hours at our new location, so these may vary a little. We may also add more than one casual position should the right people have limited availability.
